Even though we're still on S2K, I track D365 F&O releases closely. When we eventually modernize, I want to know what the platform can do. Here's what caught my attention in Wave 2.
Why Track D365 Now?
ERP selection takes years. Understanding the platform trajectory helps evaluate whether D365 is the right long-term choice. Features announced today influence our evaluation next year.
Warehouse Management Updates
Wave 2 brings improved warehouse mobile app capabilities. Better offline support, improved scanning performance, and more flexible wave templates. For a distribution company, warehouse execution is critical. These improvements matter.
Finance Improvements
Bank reconciliation gets AI assistance. AR collections get workflow improvements. Financial dimensions get more flexibility. Incremental improvements that compound over time.
Copilot Preview
Microsoft is adding Copilot to D365 F&O. Early preview shows natural language queries against business data, AI-assisted troubleshooting, and workflow suggestions. Too early to evaluate impact, but worth watching.
What's Missing
Still no native catch weight improvements beyond what exists. Temperature tracking for perishables remains limited. Food safety compliance features are basic. The platform works for food distribution but isn't optimized for it.
Implications
D365 remains a strong ERP candidate for our modernization. Platform trajectory is positive. But we'll need ISV solutions or customization for food-specific requirements. Good to know before we start the formal evaluation.
